My Fall Spending Relapse
Ok, so I have to admit that I’ve had a minor spending relapse over the past couple weeks. I woke up bored on Labor Day, so I decided to go shopping with my sister. We ended up making it an all day event with a break for lunch. I think we hit up about four [...]

I’m Officially Out of Debt
At last! I just paid my credit card balance down and paid back the personal loan that I borrowed from a friend. I started seriously attacking my debt back in June. I managed to pay down $4,700 in debt within three months. Needless to say, I’m a little giddy right now.
I thought that getting rid [...]

Think Before You Spend: Using WEALTH as a Guide
Hair woes for one contributor at Get Rich Slowly resulted in a handy acronym that she shared in this post. Here is how the acronym works. Before you make a purchase, think about the following factors and decide whether you truly need the item:
Want or Need
Ego

Could You Save $1,000 in 30 Days?
I read this post over at I Will Teach You to Be Rich. I’m already trying to save about this much money each month, but could you? If you needed to, could you completely give up luxuries like cable, internet, and an air conditioned house?
It’s an interesting challenge because it pits our love of saving [...]

Trying to Balance My Budget
According to the balanced budget formula that I posted last week, I should be allocating my money in the following way:
50% Needs- $1200. Subtract $500 a month for groceries, $50 for cell phone bill, $150 for utilities, $15 for recycling bill, $90 for car insurance, $65 for gasoline. Left over? $300.
30% Wants- $700
20% Savings- $500
When [...]

Want vs. Need
I love when I hear girls say, “my feet look horrible, I need a pedicure”. Really? This is a need for you? Granted, I used to pay for pedicures too, but I would only get one every 3 months. They’re hugely expensive and a good one lasts a while, so I never got addicted to [...]

The S-Word
At my old job, my boss strolled in every day -at least an hour late- with a grande mocha in tow. Then he would complain about how he could barely afford his BMW payments each month. Boo hoo. I did the math on his little Starbucks fixation. He was spending $3.65 a day (weekdays only [...]
